HMD Global at the MWC event at Barcelona announced that all the Nokia Phones from Nokia 3 (including the Nokia 3) will be part of Google’s Android One project.
Android One project was launched way back in 2014 by Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Devices under this project come with Google’s raw Android (AOSP) without any modifications or bloatware. Unlike other devices, the device hardware will be made by OEMs (Original Equipment Maker) and software updates are provided by Google, meaning that these are like Nexus/Pixel devices standing first in line for software updates for three years. Moreover, these devices receive monthly security updates from Google (which is available for all devices but most OEMs refuse to provide monthly security updates) making these devices more secure.

First Android One devices were sub 100$ devices namely Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V, Spice UNO. These devices were made specifically for specific markets. Last year Xiaomi launched Mi A1 under Android One project and made it available for global market. Usually, one or two Android One devices are launched by OEMs, surprisingly Nokia under HMD Global announced that all their devices from Nokia 3 will be released under Android One Project.
We have created a unique partnership with Google and it makes sense that we should strengthen that partnership today. - Juho Sarvikas, CPO of HMD Global at MWC, Barcelona.
While HMD Global launched Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6 at MWC 2018, all these devices will be coming with Android One. Other Android One devices are Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 and Nokia 8. Since Nokia 1 is under Android Go project it is not under Android One.
Nokia Devices which did not come with Android Oreo 8.0 or which still did not receive Android Oreo will receive Android Oreo 8.1 in the following weeks and these devices along with Google Pixel devices will receive Android P firstly.
This is maybe the Nokia brand did not go well as expected by HMD Global. Obviously, they wanted to fire up the sales number of the brand by entering Android One Project. Whatever the reason behind the move, Nokia sure would see some increase in sales.
