Xiaomi recently launched the successor for the previous year’s hit Redmi Note 4, the Redmi Note 5 along with the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The Redmi Note 5 is pretty much like the Redmi Note 4 except for the infinity display whereas the Redmi Note 5 Pro has the latest processor and is considered truly the successor for the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Design:
The Redmi Note 5 Pro has a tall body design. The device is not exactly bezel-less like in the Mi Mix or Mi Mix 2s but literally, it has thin bezels surrounding the beautifully crafted 5.99-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The device has an 8.1 mm thickness and weighs 181 grams. The Redmi Note 5 Pro is made of aluminum with the back panel top and bottom strips are made of plastics. With the Redmi Note 5 Pro Xiaomi debuts into infinity display.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes in four color variants, Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Lake Blue. Except for the Black color, all the other variants have front white bezel which in my opinion looks pretty awful. Because of the White Bezels, the Redmi Note 5 Pro does not look like a thin bezel device.
Under the Hood:
The Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by the latest and powerful 14nm Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 chipset which has a Kryo 260 CPU and contains 4x Cortex A-73 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz and 4x Cortex A53 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz. It has Adreno 509 GPU for gaming. The device has 4 GB / 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM which is usually used in high-end devices.

Display:
The display has a resolution of 2160 x 1080 (403 ppi) with software features like Reading mode, Colour correction, Sunlight mode and Night Mode. The Sunlight readability is pretty good. Moreover, the display has nothing bad to say. As always the viewing angles are good.
Camera:
The back of the Redmi Note 5 Pro has a dual camera setup with a 12MP primary sensor and 5MP secondary lens. The 12MP sensor has an aperture of f/2.2 (1.25 um) and the 5MP sensor has an aperture of f/2.0 (1.12 um). The dual camera setup looks exactly like the Apple iPhone X with a Single tone LED flash in the center. As far as the Camera is concerned this is one of the best cameras Xiaomi Redmi devices had. The rear camera has additional features like Enhanced Low Light Photography, HDR, Panorama, Burst Mode and Face recognition. The Rear camera does not have OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) but has EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization). Sadly the Rear Camera cannot shoot 4K videos and is restricted to Full HD (1080p). However 4K recording can be easily implemented with a Software Update but who knows what Xiaomi has in its mind.
The Front camera has a whopping 20 MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture and 1.0 um sensor size. The Front camera also has an LED flash for night selfies. It can shoot videos at 1080p @30 FPS or 720p @30 FPS. The Front camera not only is used for selfies but can also be used for Face Unlock. Unlike the Apple iPhone X, the Redmi Note 5 Pro does not have a dedicated hardware for face unlock. It works only with the help of Front Camera. So obviously it won’t work in the extreme dark.
The Camera also has Manual Mode but does not gives you full manual settings.
Software:
The device still runs on MiUi 9 Software which is based on Android Nougat. While Android Oreo has been around for a long time and Android P is going to launch in the following months Xiaomi’s latest device still lacks the latest software. Apart from the fact that it does not run on Oreo, the MIUI 9 offers a lot of customization abilities like Dual Apps – where you can use apps with second account simultaneously, Second Space – to create an additional user profile and many more.
Battery and Charger:
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has a 4000 mAh Li-Ion Polymer battery. Even though the chipset is capable of providing Qualcomm’s Quick charge 4.0, Xiaomi did not provide a Quick Charger with it. The supplied charger is a normal 5V / 2A charger. Also, the device still uses Micro USB and does not have USB Type-C.

Onboard Storage and SIM cards:
The Redmi Note 5 Pro has 64GB inbuilt storage on both variants. The device includes a hybrid SIM slot where you can use either Single Nano SIM with a MicroSD card or Dual Nano SIM. The device can support up to 128 GB MicroSD card. The Device is capable of 4G LTE and supports VoLTE (Voice Over LTE). Additionally, the device has Bluetooth 5.0, Dual-band Wi-Fi. 3.5 mm Headphone Jack and GPS connectivity.
Sensors:
Sensors include Accelerometer, Gyroscope Sensor (You can use VR headset), Proximity, Magnetometer (compass), Infrared Sensor (Remote control), Ambient Light Sensor and Hall Sensor.
SAR Information:
• Head : 1.188 W/Kg
• Body: 0.334 W/Kg
Price:
The 4GB and 64 GB variant is priced at ₹13, 999 whereas the 6GB and 64GB variant is priced at ₹16,999. For this price bracket, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has a lot to offer and is the best bang for the money. Yet buying the mobile is still through flash sales. The first sale of the device went on 22nd February and Xiaomi India told that it sold about 300,000 devices within seconds. The next sale is on 28th February.
