The first Android N developer preview is out without much sound. The preview was launched on March 9 which is much earlier than the expected release date. The preview wwas expected to launch in Google I/O - 2016 Annular Google Developer conference which begins on May 18.As like old releases the Android N preview went live for the Nexus line of devices (Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Pixel C and Nexus player) on the android developer site. The developer preview often contain things which may not be available in the final release and not all the features will be available in the preview.
Official Release :
The final Android 7.0 is marked to release in the Q3 2016.The new Nexus 6P (2016) or Nexus 5X (2016) could be seen earlier. The final version of Android N will be first made available to the Nexus devices. As of now if you want to taste Android N in your supported Nexus device you can download now.
Features in Android N :
Multi-Window Mode :
We had earlier seen this in Samsung Galaxy devices. Now Android N has native support for multi-window mode which is quite appreciable. This has been confirmed in the Android N developer preview. Now app developers have to make support for split screen in their apps with their minimum size for app window.
New Setting Menu :
The Android 7.0 delivers a new revamped Settings UI.This includes addition of new suggestion drop down list, removal of individual section dividers, basic detail of each section is displayed in the main settings menu and hamburger menu. (icon with three lines)
For example if a user is in the display menu need to jump into WiFi menu he can directly jump into the WiFi menu by using the left side menu.
Notification panel :
The notification panel is completely redesigned from the ones we have seen earlier. There is a small strip of toggles in the notification shade for frequently used things.A small arrow at the right hand edge will launch the quick setting panel. The quick setting panel is paginated now.The important update in notification area is we can reply for messages, mails directly from the notification panel itself.
Changing DPI :
It is now easier to change display DPI. The option is available under display in the settings menu.
Faster Boot :
Things have changed from earlier Dalvik(Kitkat) to ART(Lollipop). The ART run time compiles every app at the time of system boot which in turn increased the boot time.To overcome this increased boot time again Google have come with a newer solution of compiling apps during the first time launch of the app instead of first time boot.
Improved Doze :
One of the note worthy feature in Android Marshmallow is the battery saving feature Doze which puts the device in deep sleep when the device is kept stationery. Now in Android N the Doze feature is improved and it can now suspend background activities when the display is off, even if the device isn't stationary. This can be useful when you are out and about with the phone in your pocket. You still aren't using the device but normally Doze on Marshmallow wouldn't kick in because it thinks you might be using the device. With the updated Doze, you can expect further savings on battery.
Emergency Info in Lock screen :
Android has included a new setting call Emergency Info which comes handy if the user caught in an accident. These information includes name, address, blood group, allergies and other essential emergency information.
More details about the Android N would be updated in the future once they are revealed.
