Android Nougat will begin to roll out to users from today, Google has announced.
The latest version of the company mobile operating system will start shipping out to users of its flagship Nexus range over the next few weeks. The Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 units will be receiving an over-the-air update to Android 7.0, as will the Nexus Player, Pixel C and the Android One.As always, non-Nexus device owners will have to wait a little bit longer to get their hands on the update, but flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S7 will probably be first in line.
It has also been announced that the LG V20 will be the first device to ship with Android Nougat pre-installed when it launches on 6 September.
Much like previous Android releases, Nougat takes several features developed by individual manufacturers and rolls them into the core OS. Multi-window support is now included, for example, as is the ability to directly reply to messages and notifications without opening the relevant app.
Features :
- Users can switch between their two most recently-used apps by double-tapping the 'recent apps' button.
- The quick settings menu is now editable by default, allowing users to customise the order.
- Nougat now supports the Vulkan API, which offers increased graphics performance and lower CPU loads for mobile gaming.
- 72 new emoji has been added.
- Compatible with Google Daydream, the company's forthcoming virtual reality platform.
- Android Nougat features file-based encryption
- Upgrades to the power-saving Doze mode
- Direct Boot for faster startup times.
