India Reported to have the Slowest 4G Speed Among the World

4g speed comparisions globally and india

OpenSignal's latest reports are out. It reveals that amidst all the network operators providing 4G LTE connectivity, India still stood lowest among the 88 countries in the speed comparison, indeed lower than last year.

The OpenSignal’s The State of LTE, reports reveal that India on average gets the 4G speed of about 6.07 Mbps (which is 0.75 MBps) whereas Singapore gets an average of 44.31 Mbps (5.538 MBps) and leads the list, followed by the Netherlands with an average of 42 Mbps (5.25 MBps). In the previous report which was published last year November by the OpenSignal, India remained last among the 77 countries with an average speed of 6.13 Mbps (0.766 MBps) which within three months the speeds worsened to 6.07 Mbps.

According to OpenSignal’s blog, a country’s 4G speed depends on a lot of factors like how much spectrum has been devoted to LTE, has new 4G technologies have been implemented or not, how much user congestion on the network etc. Overall, countries with the fastest speed are the ones that adopted LTE advanced devices and built LTE advanced networks.

The bottom-ranked countries are those with high population thus resulting in higher subscriber base. Countries ranked with less than 10 Mbps speed are Thailand - 9.60 Mbps (1.2 MBps), Philippines – 9.49 Mbps (1.18 MBps), Indonesia – 8.92 Mbps (1.11 MBps), Algeria – 8.65 Mbps (1.08 MBps) and lastly India with 6.07 Mbps (0.75 MBps).

Meanwhile, India has 4G LTE coverage of 86.26% and stands 14th among the 88 countries. South Korea positions first with 97.49% LTE coverage followed by Japan with 94.70%. It is worth pointing out that India has more 4G coverage than Singapore (84.43%) but still both the countries are on the opposite side in terms of speed comparison.

The Global average speeds are as follows:

Network
Speed in Mbps
2G
0.1
3G
4.1
4G/LTE
16.9
Wi-Fi
14.0

Unfortunately, we are challenging with the global average speeds of the 3G network in India. In a report, companies that provide telecom infrastructure said that the operators are slow in adopting latest technologies and making fresh investments.

While none of the countries reach 50 Mbps mark, 18 countries surpassed 30 Mbps speed.
