Finally LG has unleashed its flagship device for the year 2016, yes you are right the LG G5.The most popular series from LG.The device got unveiled at the MWC. The most interesting fact about the device is that it is the first commercial modular device. The module development is expanded to third party developers also which means that innovation for the device will not be limited.The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Build and Design :
The build quality of the device from its predecessor G4 is much changed and the materials used to build the device is also changed.The device has got a complete new design which is quite good and also got modular components.The phone is made of metal and there were no antenna bands giving a break to the finish of the body except in the place of modular components.It has got a fingerprint scanner at the back, a USB Type-C port is at the bottom for charging and data transfer then a 3.5 mm audio jack is present at the top.The phone body has a slight curved corners and a small hump is present around the fingerprint sensor and the camera lens area.The power button comes in the fingerprint sensor.It weighs 159 grams and measures 7.7 mm thickness.
Display :
The G5 features a 5.3 inch Quad HD display (1440p) IPS Quantum display with 554 ppi.The display could produce brightness of 900 nits which is high making the display could be viewed at extreme sunlight conditions.The display also features a new technology from LG called the "Always on display".It makes a small portion of display to be on always for accessing notifications and time without having to power on the whole display.The always on display is designed to reduce the power consumption.The display only needs 0.8% of the charge per hour of the whole battery.LG have redesigned the display IC and the power management driver to optimise it to lit only a small portion of the display. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
Hardware :
The LG G5 is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor (64 bit KRYO cores) and Adreno 530 GPU coupled with 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM.It has 32GB of internal storage and can be expanded up to 2 TB with the help of a MicroSD card slot.The device gets its power from a removable Lithium Ion battery of 2800 mAh which is bit low considering the powerful device.
Camera :
In camera also LG made serious developments resulting in two sensor camera.One has 16 MP sensor with 75 degree view and the other has 8 MP sensor with a wider 135 degree viewing angle. The images from both the sensors can be merged together and can be edited in real time.LG says this is the best camera so far it has ever produced. On the front it has a 8 MP sensor.
Connectivity and Colours :
Connectivity includes 2G, 3G, 4G, WiFi (a,b,g,n,ac) , USB Type-C, NFC, GPS and Bluetooth 4.2.The LG G5 comes in four colours as Silver, Titan, Gold and Pink.
Modular Components :
During the launch LG showed of a camera grip module called cam plus which can be replaced with the existing module. This adds an extra 1100 mAh battery along with it gives hardware control for G5's camera such as hardware key, video button and zoom controls.
Another module is for the audio output.It does not add any weight or size giving G5 a 24 bit DAC co-designed and tuned by Olufsen and Bang.Adding this module gives one more audio jack to the device.The jack on the top gives 24 DAC audio from LG and the bottom gives Hi-FI plus B&O audio.
In the future we can expect more modules from LG and also from third party developers.
Price and Availability :
The LG G5 and some accessories would be available to buy from April 2016.The price of the device is not yet confirmed.
