Last month tech giant Google announced a unified payment service called Google pay which combines Google Wallet and Android pay into a single service. With this new app, Google aims high with the service integrating into all Google Products including the Google Chrome and the Google Assistant.

Android pay was launched way back in 2015 with Google Wallet's tap to pay, in-app payments and online checkouts. With Android Pay out in the market, Google reduced the functionality of Google Wallet with supporting only peer to peer transaction between users of UK and US. This two app policy became a lot messier than you think. Samsung Pay and Apple Pay are much more streamlined than Android Pay.

To overcome this Google announced the introduction of Google Pay - which combines Android Pay and Google Wallet into single service. The new Google Pay app which was launched today supports features of Android Pay like securely saving credit and debit card information, adding bank accounts, contactless payment transfer, online checkout, dummy credit card numbers and gift card management. Google has not inherited peer to peer payment transfer in Google Pay like in the Google Wallet.  As of now, Google Wallet has been renamed as Google Pay send. But in the coming months, person to person transfer feature will be inherited making it a standalone app for all payments.

The Google Pay app has two tabs on its home screen, the first one is the home tab which is nothing much but shows a list of stores that support Google Pay nearby and rewards. The second tab is the cards, which shows users stored credentials including debit, credit and other bank accounts.

“The app, which begins rolling out today, is just one part of everything we’ve got planned. We’re currently working on bringing Google Pay to all Google products, so whether you’re shopping on Chrome or with your Assistant, you’ll have a consistent checkout experience using the cards saved to your Google Account. We’re also working with partners online and in stores, so you’ll see Google Pay on sites, in apps, and at your favorite places around the world.”

-Gerardo Capiel and Varouj Chitilian, executives at Google’s Consumer Payments division, wrote in a blog post.

Users in the US and UK are the first to use the app for payments transfer while Google has not revealed when it will be available for the rest of the countries. Google has also released four new YouTube videos to show how things work with the Google Pay app.
