Asus Zenfone 5 Series launched at the MWC 2018 - Specifications and Price

Asus at the MWC unveiled the new Zenfone 5 series (which was first launched 4 years back) Smartphones, the Zenfone 5Z, the Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5 Lite. While the Zenfone 5Z is the top variant and the Zenfone 5 Lite is a budget device. Asus also launched Zenfone Max M1. The Zenfone 5 series have the camera notch like in the Apple iPhone X which gives the device 90% display body ratio.

Asus Zenfone 5Z (ZS620KL):

The Asus Zenfone 5Z is the high end variant with top notch Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Chipset. The processor is backed with 4GB / 6GB/ 8GB RAM. The base model has 4GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage while the middle has 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The top model has 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The memory can be expanded up to 2TB by a MicroSD card which has its own dedicated slot and supports Dual SIM.

On the front the Zenfone 5Z has a 6.2 inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2246) resolution display with 19:9 aspect ratio which is larger than the 18.5:9 aspect ratio seen in the Samsung Galaxy S series. The 19:9 aspect ratio is made possible by arranging the front camera and sensors in a notch at the top of the display as seen in the Apple iPhone X making it a taller device. The back has a dual camera setup with primary 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The ancillary camera has an 8MP 120 degree wide angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The dual cameras can shoot 4K video at 30/60FPS, 1080p videos at 120FPS. The front camera is made of 8MP f/2.0 aperture lens. There is no OIS but Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) is present for both front and back cameras.

Connectivity includes all basic connectivity like Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS, NFC, 3.5mm Headphone jack and USB Type C for charging and data transfer. The device runs on Zen UI 5.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. A 3300 mAh battery powers the device. The Fingerprint sensor is at the back and also Face unlock is available.



Asus is also flaunting the audio features on the smartphone, including dual 5-magnet speakers with dual NXP smart amplifiers, triple internal microphones with noise reduction, Hi-Res Audio (192KHz/ 24-bit standard audio output on HRA certified earbuds) support, a PMIC internal dual amplifier, as well as DTS Headphone: X support. The Zenfone 5Z is made of Aluminium with Glass back and measure 7.9mm in thickness also weighs 155 grams. The device will be available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver. Both the front and back glass is protected by Gorilla Glass

Asus Zenfone 5 (ZE620KL):

There is nothing much difference between the Zenfone 5Z and the Zenfone 5. Except that the Asus Zenfone 5 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor coupled with 4GB / 6GB RAM. The Asus Zenfone 5 comes in two variants 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, then 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.

All the other specifications are as same as in the Zenfone 5Z even the weight and dimensions of the devices are same. The Zenfone 5 will be available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver.

Asus Zenfone 5 lite (ZC600KL):

As the name says, the dual SIM Zenfone lite is the inferior model to the Zenfone 5Z and Zenfone 5. The Zenfone 5 lite comes in two options in terms of chipset, one possessing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 and the other one with Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset. Both the variants comes in two RAM options – one with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage and other one with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The storage can be increased with a MicroSD card (dedicated slot) up to 2TB. It does not have any notch like its elders and boasts a 6-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2160) 18:9 aspect ratio display with 402ppi.

The USP of the device is the presence of dual camera at the front and at the back. The back has a 16MP primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a secondary 8MP wide angle sensor (120 degree).The front bears a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/2.0 aperture with 85.5 degree field of view. The secondary lens features a 8MP 120 degree wide angle sensor and also features a soft light LED flash.

The device is made of Aluminium with the back is covered by2.5D  Glass. It weighs 168 grams and measures 7.8 mm thick. Battery is same as like in Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5Z. Fingerprint sensor is at the back. It will be available in Midnight Black, Moonlight White and Rogue Red colors.
